Environmental Stewardship and Marine Conservation

BKF Project

Taking care of the natural world is both a moral and a spiritual obligation, and Baraka tried to emulate this during her life. Islam views “khalifah”, or stewardship of the Earth, as a sacred trust, a responsibility to preserve the harmony of creation and leave the planet in a better state than when we found it. Baraka lived by this philosophy, especially in her support of the preservation of coral reefs and her passion for the natural world.

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), London Zoo:

A leading organisation in the fields of coral reef preservation and wildlife conservation received a generous donation of £25,000 by Mr Jim and Mrs Dafina Mellon in the Spring of 2025. This gift honours Baraka’s profound reverence for nature and supports innovative initiatives to protect threatened ecosystems.

Maldives Coral Reef Sponsorship:

The Baraka Khan Foundation sponsored the transplantation of a coral reef to the Parrot Reef area in the Maldives on 24th July 2024. This project helped restore important marine habitats by involving species like Pocillopora damicornis, Pocillopora sp., Acropora tenuis, and Acropora nasuta.
