Make Every Breath Count

The Baraka Khan Foundation was established to continue the legacy of Baraka Khan, who throughout her life strove to create fairer, forward-thinking and more inclusive communities. Diagnosed with incurable lung cancer shortly after her graduation from Cambridge University, her compassion for others, her unwavering faith and her unshakeable belief in the kindness of others has inspired people from all backgrounds to continue her work.

Created by the Khan family in honour of their daughter, The Baraka Khan Foundation is the vehicle through which noble projects representing all Baraka stood for are created and delivered.

Throughout her journey in fighting cancer, Baraka developed a compassionate, heartfelt connection with Macmillan Cancer Support and became a powerful advocate for the selfless support they provide to those who are suffering from cancer. Through fundraising, networking and awareness campaigns, Baraka helped spread the word about Macmillan and its vital work, giving birth to her very own campaign: ‘Make Every Breath Count’.

“Macmillan is delighted to be working with the Baraka Khan Foundation and Mosques across London to reach out to the Muslim community. Baraka Khan was a truly inspirational young woman who cared passionately about her community and her country. We hope this new initiative, named in her honour, will encourage her fellow Muslims to also be inspired to get involved in a Macmillan Coffee Morning and to help us be there for all people facing cancer.” – Lynda Thomas, Chief Executive of Macmillan

The Foundation is proud to continue Baraka’s relationship with Macmillan and is currently involved in developing innovative and inclusive engagement programmes with the charity to help even more of those suffering. The Macmillan Coffee Morning campaign of 2022 is the latest example.

The Foundation will work to continue forming new relationships on Baraka’s principles and will seek to create new champions who can continue her legacy.
